Irene initially thought I was kidding when I asked for a pocket knife for my birthday, but I’ve been carrying a small knife around with me in my purse for years, for apples, string (from packages), wild flowers (never actually do that but you never know…), more apples, making a sandwich in the dunes, liberating a key from a rusty bicycle lock, the top of a wine bottle that I never manage to unscrew… Also very handy when you want to play being the cool, fortress building mom. My old knife needed replacing and my new knife with its oak handle is pure eye candy. Thanks so much to my dear colleagues. In short, inside of me beats the heart of a girl scout.
